Inspired

Ian Kamau

"You crash your dreams when you assume your fate."
- Ian Kamau.

Canadian poet, Ian Kamau gave a dose of his material at Emonti in Newtown, Johannesburg. This was the Word n Sound (extra) Poetry session which took place on the 21st of July, and I think he is absolutely amazing. One can listen to mix tapes of an artist, but I think it is a totally different dynamic when you are graced with a moving recital of their thoughts uncensored from them. Ian Kamau has a way of connecting with his audience which was what I appreciated most about him as an artist. Hip-hop is a very rhobust culture and the likes of Rapsody and Ian himself give a new perspective on poetry itself through the messages that are brought across by these artists, for people like myself whom are immersing themselves in this world. I was truly inspired. Being there made me understand why I write - because an unexamined life is not worth living.

"In life, move. Move on, move up, move out. Just MOVE!"

Until then,

One love.

Lee.
